Asterix At The Olympic Games
At the games, Asterix and the Roman athletes are beaten at every turn by the Greeks, causing a dilemma to the Olympic officials. Although their victories prove what they've believed all along (that Romans are decadent barbarians and the Greeks are perfect beings), too much success will reflect badly on the country's reputation, so they announce a special race for just Romans. After the announcement, Asterix and Getafix start talking, very loudly, about a cauldron of magic potion left in an unguarded shed. Eager to win, the other Roman athletes steal the potion that night.

A live action movie of this book was released in France in January 2008 to coincide with the Beijing Olympics. Even though it is similar to the original story, there are some differences. The main one being instead of the whole village taking part in the games, only Asterix, Obelix, Getafix, Dogmatix, and a new character named Lovesix take part in the games in order for Lovesix to win the heart of, and show his worthiness for, princess Irina. There is also another subplot about Julius Caesar's son Brutus, who also wants to marry the princess, overthrow his father and take over the Roman empire.
With Beijing hosting this years summer Olympic games it was no surprise that a number of Olympic themed games have appeared on this years calendar. Atari must of been kicking themselves when SEGA released Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, pretty much claiming all the Olympic medals in one fellow swoop. Does Asterix at the Olympic games stand any chance against SEGA's smash hit?
As you should be able to tell by now this game is quite different from Mario & Sonic, the Asterix game has a story and should be treated more as an adventure game with sporting mini games. The single player adventure starts out in a little village where you master the basic controls by chasing around some filthy pigs. After some more story telling your whisked off to the Olympic village where your true adventure begins.
The actual Olympic events vary from traditional events like sprinting to some rather bizarre ones such as "Toad ball". Generally these events are rather simple and lack any depth, of course Atari have used the Wiimote to inject some excitement, running is performed like other similar games where you move the Wiimote and Nunchuck up and down again and again.
Lovestorix is in love with Princess Irina but Brutus also wants to marry her. To solve this problem, the Princess decides that she'll marry whoever wins the Olympic Games. At the same time the evil Doctormabus has discovered a dimensional key with which he can open portals to parallel dimensions and with it threatens to destroy the balance between the worlds. But of course Asterix & Obelix come to the rescue and have to not only stop Doctormabus but also help Lovestorix win the games.
Like in Astérix & Obélix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum you take control over both Asterix and Obelix and fight your way through hordes of Romans, building up combos with your punches and solving small riddles on the way. You can also change between controling Asterix or Obelix at any time. But since you are taking part in the Olympic Games, there are also several mini-games waiting which need to be beat in order to progress further in the story. These mini-games include things like Long Jump or Tug of War. These field events are played much like in Asterix and Obelix which means for example that you alternate between two buttons as fast as you can to run.
In the live-action film Asterix at the Olympic Games, Princess Irina of Greece has declared that she will marry whoever wins the Olympic Games after an argument between Lovestorix (Also known as Lovesix) and Brutus. Asterix and Obelix decide to help Lovestorix to win the games.
When it is revealed that the Gauls team has been using their magic potions Brutus demands the Gauls to be banned from the games. However, Brutus is not much any better as he bribes the judges and constantly cheats. When Asterix calls out Brutus to his father, Caesar declares that the finale of the Olympic Games will be a chariot race.
Asterix and Obelix must win at the Olympic Games in order to help their friend Lovesix save the Greek princess Irina from her forced marriage to the Roman Brutus. Brutus uses every trick in the book to have his own team win the games and get rid of his adoptive father Julius Caesar in the process.
While out hunting, Asterix and his friend Obelix run across a sports champion of one of the local Roman garrisons named Gluteus Maximus., who is to participate in the Olympic Games. Under the effects of magic potion, they beat the Roman athlete in everything he attempts, temporarily breaking his resolve. Later on, the Gauls decide to participate in the Games as well, under the view that - as part of the Roman world - they are legally Romans (only free-born Greek citizens were allowed to compete in the ancient Olympics, but under pressure an exception was made for their Roman occupiers). They later arrive in Greece for the games, and are entered in the list of participants, much to the surprise of the Greeks and the consternation of the Romans.
